The Heritage Trail started as a conventional map and gradually evolved into an illustrated visitor guide. Looking at Schengen from a different perspective changed the map: routes became easier to follow, landmarks more recognisable and relationships between places more apparent. Instead of relying solely on a top-down view, the guide translates the landscape into a visual experience that feels closer to the way visitors actually discover the region. Illustration becomes a tool for orientation, helping people connect places, stories and historical references along the way. Developed as a fold-out A3 publication for the Schengen Museum, the project combines illustration, information design and visual storytelling. The result is not only a guide for finding directions, but an invitation to explore Schengen and discover how its places, stories and history connect. Ready to explore?
