Design Friends No 72
Why we engage for a lecture with Germans Ermičs

Sometimes it starts with fascination, before there is a clear reason why. When Claudia first came across the work of Germans Ermičs, it was not a specific object that caught her attention, but the way his work shifts perception — how colour, glass and reflection redefine space. This led to proposing him for a Design Friends lecture, followed by the conversation, the interview and the development of the catalogue within the existing Design Friends framework, reinterpreting its visual language through image selection and layout. Based in Amsterdam, the Latvian designer moves between sculpture and design, developing objects where colour becomes structure rather than surface. His work does not simply occupy space, it changes how it is read. A lecture shaped by observation, perception and spatial awareness.
